A Year Later, Remote Work Continues for Employees at Large Valley Offices

Article originally posted on Phoenix Business Journal on March 16, 2021

This time last year many were scrambling for toilet paper or naively assuming work-from-home would last for two weeks, tops.

Twelve months later and major Valley employers say their plans to return to offices remain unaltered and they’re doing the utmost to keep their employees safe, which still means work from home for the time being.

Gov. Doug Ducey lifted occupancy restrictions on bars and theaters on March 5 to mixed reactions from local business restaurant owners. And it appears lifted restrictions did little to move offices toward reopening.

Representatives from local branches of American Express, Freeport-McMoRan, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, DoorDash, Cox Communications, Freedom Financial Network and Intel Corporation all said the majority of their employees are continuing to work from home.

While some had loose, subject-to-change timelines about returning to the office, most noted that they did not have any date in mind and would follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health officials.
