Some 1,581 new residential units opened downtown from 2023 to 2024, while 2,940 units were under construction and 3,309 units were in predevelopment, according to data from the City of Phoenix’s Community and Economic Development Department. It comes as the downtown Phoenix area is undergoing a broader transformation in the years following the pandemic, with the expansion of higher education campuses, more light rail stops, new hotels and efforts to boost sports and entertainment options near the convention center. The city has also focused heavily on increasing the presence of transit-oriented communities, which are more compact, pedestrian-friendly mixed-use developments located within walking distance from transit.
