Toy Barn plans 205,000-square-foot flagship in north Scottsdale

Toy Barn’s flagship luxury car garage location is on track to begin construction within the 124-acre Mack Innovation Park in north Scottsdale.

The 205,000-square-foot, six-building facility will sit on 10 acres of land off Loop 101, between Bell and Pima roads, making it the luxury car storage company’s eighth and largest site, Toy Barn co-founder and principal Jason Phillips told the Business Journal.

Toy Barn is an early pioneer of luxury car garages in the Phoenix metro, opening its first location in 2010. It now has multiple facilities in Scottsdale, Chandler and Cave Creek with a 138,000-square-foot Dove Valley facility set to open in October. The 91-suite complex is already 85% sold out, Phillips said.

Two other companies are also looking to develop luxury storage facilities in the Scottsdale Airpark, including Southern California-based Finish Line Auto Club. It has plans to build out a country club-esque car storage facility at the former Fender Musical Instruments Corp. headquarters.

Meanwhile, Platinum Advisors LLC is working on developing a 3.5-acre parcel of land for Elite Garages Scottsdale — just south of Mack Innovation Park off Bell Road and 91st Street.

Phillips said that once the Toy Barn project is fully entitled and approved by the city, the first five-acre phase will break ground in the spring of 2027 with an anticipated completion date in the following spring. That phase will include a $35 million capital investment, 98,000 square feet with 64 suites and the 6,000 square foot community clubhouse. The second phase could break ground in the fall of 2027, Phillips estimated, with construction following on a nearby five-acre parcel of land within the Mack Innovation Park. In total, there will be 135 garage condos.

The new facility will have all of the same amenities the company’s suites are known for: 20-foot ceilings, heavy-duty garage doors, climate-control, Wi-Fi capabilities and plumbing, with opportunities for personalization. Some of those customizations include adding mezzanine loft, custom cabinetry, bathrooms and custom finishes among other personalization features, per previous Business Journal reporting.

The north Scottsdale location will also have a rooftop members patio overlooking the McDowell Mountains.

DLR Group is the architect, and Phillips said LGE Design Build will likely be the general contractor. Philips serves as the broker and the developer of the project.
