No need to second guess the twists and turns of the upcoming rental season. The Rental Activity Report is a comprehensive top of the 150 U.S. largest cities ranked based on the behavior of renters’ themselves. The millions of interactions on RentCafe.com do just that, providing data of their intent to move, which we compile in a monthly report.  In June, Chandler and Glendale are the rental hotspots in Arizona, but, in fact, most large cities caught apartment hunters’ attention one foot into the rental season. Chandler ranks No. 26 among the most in-demand rental cities in the U.S. Glendale is right behind, ranking as the No. 27 most in-demand rental city in the U.S.

Here are the rental trends in Arizona:

• The East Valley and the West Valley are neck and neck in the top 30 represented by Chandler and Glendale, respectively. Glendale’s 8-spot surge comes as no surprise since apartment dwellers saved as favorites almost eightfold more properties than a year ago. Chandler kept its ground in the top 30 for two consecutive months. In June, page views increased by 19% and properties that caught renters’ eyes quadrupled.

• The third most in-demand city in Arizona is Phoenix, which slowly but surely is making its way into the top 30. The interest shown for Phoenix was constant in the last three months, renters marked as favorite three times as many listings and saved more searches year-over-year, April through June.

• Scottsdale, Mesa and Tucson made impressive jumps in the most in-demand rental cities ranking. Here the number of favorited listings more than doubled this month. What’s more, Scottsdale is gaining up fast on Phoenix. It saw a 16% year-over-year decline in the number of apartments available for rent, reflecting high demand from renters.
