A new Safeway grocery store opens its doors in metro Phoenix Article originally posted on AZ Central on January 9, 2026 A new Safeway grocery store was set to open its doors on Jan. 9 in Queen Creek. The store anchors the 14-acre Harvest Station development along the southwest corner of Riggs and Gary roads in the town. The nearest grocery store to the Safeway includes a Walmart 3.5 miles south of the location, and Fry’s and Sprouts grocery stores 2 miles east. The first 200 shoppers at the grand opening received free bags of groceries. The Safeway Foundation awarded over $100,000 in grants to local schools and nonprofit organizations to commemorate the opening. Carl Huntington, the president of the southwest division of Safeway, said in a news release it was a “highly upgraded” store and it would provide “the finest selection of foods.” The new store featured a full-service pharmacy, drive-up and go grocery pick-up, expanded Starbucks and seating areas and a designer floral department, according to the company’s new release. In addition, the store featured an expansive wine and craft beer area along with a full-service sushi counter. Queen Creek also approved a Safeway fueling station with six pumps and a convenience store, which is scheduled to open at a later date. Eisenberg Company was the developer of the larger Harvest Station project and plans to add 23,200 square feet of retail space. Queen Creek’s newest Safeway marks the 76th store in metro Phoenix. The store’s hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Sunday.
