Until now, Tempe-based Amkor has been poised to build its $2 billion semiconductor chip packaging and testing facility in the master-planned community of Vistancia, that attracted growing opposition from area residents along the way. It’s now planning to relocate the plant to a swath of land the city is setting up as the Peoria Innovation Core, following an Arizona State Land Department auction Aug. 27 in which the city placed a winning bid of $46.7 million for 834.5 acres of state trust land. That site is northwest of the Loop 303 Freeway and Lake Pleasant Parkway intersection and is referred to as the “Core 2” section of the innovation core.
