Bally Sports Parent Company Sues Phoenix Suns Over New TV Broadcast Deal

Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports Arizona, has asked a bankruptcy judge in Texas to order the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury to roll back its new media rights deal.

Less than a week after the Suns announced the team would be moving its games from the cable network Bally Sports Arizona to over-the-air television stations owned by Gray Television Inc., Diamond Sports, the parent company of Bally Sports, filed an emergency motion for a stay to prevent the NBA franchise from moving forward with the deal.

Diamond argued that the Suns ownership violated its contract with the regional sports network and broke federal bankruptcy law, which doesn’t allow entities to “exercise control over property” of the company in bankruptcy proceedings.
