A Houston-based multifamily developer is looking to build more than 600 apartment units in Gilbert.

Developer Kaplan Multifamily is proposing the District at Cooley Station, which calls for multiple buildings that includes apartments and on-site retail. District at Cooley Station is set to be heard by Gilbert Planning Commission on Wednesday.

District at Cooley Station is being proposed on more than 12 acres on the northwest corner of Recker and Williams Field roads. The project would be located near existing multifamily projects such as The Crossing at Cooley Station and Springs at Cooley Station and across the street from the new Verde at Cooley Station shopping center. Fry’s Food Stores also has a grocery store across the street from the site.

According to documents submitted to the town of Gilbert, District at Cooley Station would be built in two phases. Upon completion, the development would consist of 612 multifamily units with two resort-style pools on-site, open space, a parking garage, 15,000 square feet of standalone retail and commercial shops and another 25,000 square feet of “non-residential space,” which could include a public fitness center and community center.
