Vallarta Supermarkets preparing second Arizona location Article originally posted on Phoenix Business Journal on January 22, 2026 Vallarta Supermarkets, the Southern California-based Latino grocery store, is preparing to open its second location in Arizona later this year. The grocery chain just opened its first Arizona store this month in Glendale in the Grandview Plaza shopping center — at the northeast corner of 59th Avenue and Camelback Road — and already is working on its second location. The company’s next store will be located in south Phoenix at 26 E. Baseline Road, in a former Fallas store on the northeast corner of Central Avenue and Baseline Road. Vallarta recently applied for a Series 9 liquor license, which is the license given to liquor stores. Phoenix City Council is expected to approve the license this week. In documents from the city of Phoenix, Vallarta said the building is currently being remodeled and the company plans on opening the new store in August 2026. While new to the Phoenix market, Vallarta’s leadership has told the Business Journal it would like to open 10 to 15 stores across the Valley in the next five to 10 years.
