Wayfair joins cluster of furniture outlets in Chandler

Online furniture retailer Wayfair opened its first Arizona outlet near the Chandler Fashion Center earlier this month, becoming the latest discount furniture store to set up shop in the East Valley.

The big picture: Outlets aren’t just for outdated and overstocked goods anymore.

  • Higher-end furniture stores are getting into the game, offering big discounts on returned items with minor scratches or defects.

State of play: Wayfair joins Crate & Barrel and Restoration Hardware in launching outlets in shuttered big box stores on Chandler Boulevard near Loop 101.

  • Wayfair replaced Conn’s HomePlus, Crate & Barrel took over a former Bed, Bath & Beyond store and Restoration Hardware’s outlet used to be an OfficeMax.

The latest: Wayfair opened to much fanfare last Friday, promising 50% off everything in the store, every day.

Zoom out: Crate & Barrel and RH offer similar daily discounts, but given that their starting prices are much steeper than Wayfair’s, expect to pay more at these stores.

Pro tip: Give a thorough once over to any item before you buy. There’s usually a reason it ended up at an outlet, and while a small dent might be worth the big price cut, it’s better to know about any issues before you bring it home.
