Pictured is the site of two new apartment towers, called Hazel and Azure, that will be soon be built in Old Town Scottsdale.

Location: 4605 N. Scottsdale Road, just north of Camelback Road in Scottsdale.

Description: Hundreds of new luxury apartments are coming to Scottsdale’s historic Old Town district as part of a large, mixed-used development called Hazel & Azure.

ZOM Living, a Florida-based developer, is delivering the two-building project — one, named Hazel, directly across from Scottsdale Fashion Square mall and the other, dubbed Azure, alongside the Arizona Canal.

When finished, both towers will provide tenants with easy access to Old Town’s vibrant nightlife scene, restaurants and shops.

Overall, the development will comprise 532 units and more than 14,610 square feet of commercial and retail space.

In Hazel, an eight-story midrise building, there will be 362 luxury apartments and 13,650 square feet of ground floor commercial space.

ZOM boasts that Hazel’s “thoughtfully designed floorplans” will feature high-end finishes and views of Camelback Mountain. Tenants will also have access to a resort-style pool area, a fitness center, and co-working spaces and conference rooms.

There will also be multiple outdoor courtyards and a coffee shop.

Over at Azure, a 12-story apartment tower, there will be 170 luxury units and 960 square feet of ground floor retail space. The units will be “generously-sized” with contemporary finishes.

Azure will offer tenants amenities like a wellness studio and fitness center, access to the Arizona Canal Trail and a rooftop pool area with a view of Camelback Mountain.

History: In 2011, Scottsdale approved zoning entitlements at the site for a project referred to as BlueSky.

At the time, the development called for more than 700 units in three 13-story buildings with underground parking on 4.3 acres.

The project, however, flamed out by 2014, leaving behind a giant hole in the ground with sprouting weeds.

ZOM took advantage of the opportunity in 2021, reportedly spending $82 million to purchase the site and four other parcels at bankruptcy proceedings in Phoenix and Scottsdale.
