More than 200 units of multi-family housing are under construction in Gilbert near Banner Gateway Medical Center. Here’s what is being built in metro Phoenix. In Scottsdale: Whole Foods Market under construction A Whole Foods Market will replace a former Fry’s food store that operated for decades within the Miller Plaza retail center along Indian School and Miller Road near Old Town Scottsdale. Fry’s closed its doors at that location in May 2024 after it occupied the space for nearly 50 years. Whole Foods is now leasing a large portion, or 35,222 square feet, of the overall space, and is working on exterior renovations to its share of the building. When complete, the new grocery store is set to become Whole Foods’ sixth location in the Valley and 11th in Arizona. It was unclear when the new Whole Foods would open. Tempe’s tallest high rise going up The first phase of a $1.8 billion mixed-use project and luxury apartment complex on Tempe Town Lake is nearing completion. Shorehaven, part of the South Pier at Tempe Town Lake project, sits on a 3.3-acre lot and will have 1.3 million square feet across three towers and includes residential, retail and recreational spaces. Towers one and two both have 21 stories, and tower three will have 23 stories. The high-rise apartment complex will be among the tallest buildings in Tempe. All three towers are expected to open in 2026. In Gilbert: New housing near Banner Gateway Medical Center A 261-unit three-building apartment complex is under construction along Higley and Baseline roads near the Banner Gateway Medical Center. The complex will offer studios and one- to three-bedroom units. It will also have community amenities, such as a resort-style pool and a fitness center. The development will include 400 covered surface parking spaces and 68 private garages. It was not immediately clear when construction would wrap.
